American Ballet Theatres ABTII Opens Season at Webb Center

WICKENBURG, AZ - After two weeks of intensive work in Wickenburg preparing for the world premičre of “Pavlovsk” American Ballet Theatre II will open the 2009-10 season at the Del E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts on Nov 1 at 7:30pm.
The Company is comprised of twelve of the brightest dancers in the world between 16-20 years of age. Each dancer is selected for their beauty, strength and grace. ABTII is under the brilliant direction of Wes Chapman.
In addition to the world premiere of the eleven minute piece created by guest choreographer Roger Van Fleteren and performed by Meaghan Hinkis and Brian Waldrep; Chapman has selected four additional pieces from the Companys repertoire for the performance on Sunday.
“Barbara”, a piece recently created for ABTII by choreographer Aszure Barton, is a dance for the sake of dance; performed to Cabaret music by the entire Company.
Next up is a Pas de Deux from “Swan Lake” choreographed by Lev Ivanov and staged by Chapman; performed by April Giangeruso and Calvin Royal II.
Then from the full length ballet in three acts “Le Corsaire” (the pirate), the most celebrated of the pieces: “Le Corsaire Pas de Trois” is full of old-world swashbuckling fun performed by Skylar Brandt, Irlan Silva and Alberto Velazquez.
The final selection for the evening is another full Company piece “A Taste of Sweet Velvet” recently added to their repertoire; choreographed by Jodie Gates, with music by Ludwig Van Beethoven and Musical Landscape by Jack Eddy.
The world premičre of “Pavlovsk” and the full evening of ballet is presented as part of the Wellik Series; funded by the Wellik Foundation, a support organization of the Arizona Community Foundation.
